Katerina Philbrick, M.S., LPCA

Finding your ideal therapeutic partner can be a challenge. We want someone who “gets us” and is truly accepting of the whole package, while at the same time knowledgeable and skilled at effecting lasting change.

I invite you to take the first step in exploring all the positive growth and changes you desire. I look forward to collaborating with you in helping you to achieve your goals.

Bio

From childhood, my passion was (and still is!) Nature. It was a forgone conclusion that I would study biology. And I did. I achieved a BS in biology from UConn, as a non-traditional student, but on my way to applying to a science PhD program, I got sidetracked by a job at the Yale School of Medicine. Thus I began a career in science making transgenic constructs for human disease models (not nearly as glamorous as it sounds!). Eventually, I left the bench and shifted to being a lab manager for a large cancer lab. But neither of those paths fed my soul.

Fast forward many years later: severely burnt out, depressed, and a shell of my real self - I abruptly left Yale and pursued another big interest I had been nurturing all along - the Mind and Mental Health. I entered and completed a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at New England College in New Hampshire, and jumped right into building a private practice.

My education is far from over - my curiosity and love of learning will always be a part of what I do. My clinical interests, and well as my own passions, have informed my education, training and practice, and hope is that I can incorporate all of this knowledge, to help bring you healing and peace of mind.

My Therapeutic Approach

One way I effectively work with clients is from an Attachment Theory perspective. Clients with complex/childhood trauma have often had their early attachment relationships severed or damaged in such a way that their adult relationships suffer greatly. Keeping this in mind allows us to focus on healing some of those wounds.

From an applied therapeutic perspective, I rely on only evidence-based, scientifically supported treatment approaches, and integrate them to support each client. I draw from Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Nature-Assisted Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Schema Therapy and Neuroscience to help with a wide variety of clinical presentations, particularly with regard to trauma.

Treatment plans are individually tailored for every client’s needs. I do not prescribe to a “one size fits all” treatment paradigm. But I do believe in the collaborative care model, where clients play an integral part in their therapeutic experience.
